Opposition leader Raila Odinga has led several protests against the government since March this year. Now he has called for three days of nationwide protests aimed at putting pressure on the country’s President William Ruto to take action against the rampant cost of living.
On Wednesday alone, over 300 people have been arrested, according to Interior Minister Kithure Kindiki.
The government, in turn, accuses the opposition of creating chaos and putting a damper on the attempts made to improve the economy.
Over ten people have died in the previous protests.
In August last year, Raila Odinga lost the presidential election to William Ruto by a narrow margin. Raila Odinga claims electoral fraud was behind Ruto’s victory and that his government is illegitimate. The charges have been dismissed by the country’s judiciary.
