Minister: The Swedish Maritime Administration’s situation is worrying
The Swedish Maritime Administration’s Director General Erik Eklund says in an interview with TT that the current budget deficit means that two out of five helicopter bases are closed, that one of six icebreakers will be taken out of operation and that maintenance is reduced on the maritime trails.
The cut is expected to affect both Sweden’s defense preparedness as well as the sea and air rescue and have major consequences for industry and business.
Minister of Infrastructure Andreas Carlson (KD) says in a written comment to TT that “The Swedish Maritime Administration’s financial situation is very worrying”, and that the authority’s budget documentation should be carefully analyzed in the Government Offices.
“In the current security policy situation, it is of utmost importance that the core of the Swedish Maritime Administration’s important services maintains a full level. As the Swedish Maritime Administration is taking measures to deal with the deficit, it is central that these services are not affected too negatively, ”Carlson said in the statement.
