Romances play a big role in Baldur’s Gate 3. Two coveted companions now kiss more passionately, while the fan favorite somehow falls by the wayside. MeinMMO tells you what’s behind it.
Baldur’s Gate 3’s latest major patch, released on November 2nd, surprised players with some unexpected changes to Companions’ kissing animations. While Karlach and Halsin fans can’t get enough of the new animations, Astarion fans are left with a hint of disappointment.

Karlach and Halsin receive romantic upgrades
What are these changes to Karlach and Halsin? Larian Studios has made some profound changes affecting the relationships and romances of the Companions. For example, with Patch 4 it is now more difficult to date Lae’zel. Of particular note are the improvements to Karlach’s kiss animation.
The Tiefling Barbarian’s fans are excited about her new kissing animation, which creates a more passionate mood. Players are sharing clips and screenshots to show their excitement and emphasize how impressed they are with this change.

Astarion fans are disappointed
Why are Astarion fans disappointed? Unfortunately, Astarion fans haven’t been as lucky. The popular companion’s kissing animation disappoints some players.
The player BusinessContent9507 now expresses his frustration in a Reddit post: The viewing angle is nice, but I like the previous version a little better. Apparently the original version of the animation has a special place in his heart.
Usually, it was your character who made the first move and kissed Astarion, except for the final scene where Astarion maintained the lead, as the player describes it on Reddit.
Another player named lidlRini experienced an unfortunate situation when she asked Astarion for a kiss and the game simply skipped the kiss animation – although to be fair, this is a bug. After the player removed mods, she was able to experience the kissing scene – but the dialogue with him also doesn’t seem to work properly, as she notes.

While Karlach and Halsin fans enjoy the new kissing animations and share their emotions on social media, Astarion remains a question mark. However, Larian Studios is continually working to improve the gaming experience and fix bugs – so it’s guaranteed to only be a matter of time before they fix the bugs and possibly rework the animation again.
