The shooters rushed into the hair salon through a back door and shot their victim dead at close range.

Two men suspected of involvement in the murder in Gothenburg last year are now being charged.

“It is a brutal execution,” says the head of the investigation, Stefan Olofsson.

The murder victim, a 25-year-old man, was visiting the salon to get a haircut when the two masked men rushed into the premises and fired several shots.

The murder was caught on a surveillance video, which shows, among other things, that the two shooters were masked and each had a gun in their hands.

Two men, 19 and 20 years old respectively, are now being charged, suspected of having been involved in the murder, which took place in Högsbo in Gothenburg, in the middle of the afternoon on July 9 last year.

“The victim was shot from behind at close range. It is a brutal execution and it is clear that the perpetrators do not care that other people in the victim’s vicinity may be hit by the shots,” says Stefan Olofsson, head of the police investigation in Greater Gothenburg, in a press release.

Additional suspect

The 19-year-old man is suspected of being one of the two shooters, while the 20-year-old is being charged with aiding and abetting murder, the police say.

In addition to murder, the suspected shooter is charged with attempted murder against the hairdresser who was cutting the murder victim’s hair and grossly illegal threats against another customer.

The second shooter has not been identified. One person has been a suspect during the investigation, but the criminal charges were dropped due to a lack of evidence.

Burnt clothes

The shooters disappeared after the murder into a wooded area. Decisive for the investigation was an alarm about a small fire nearby a little later.

“We find fabric remnants from clothes that have been set on fire. Although there is only a small amount of charred pieces of fabric left, the forensics manage to find DNA on the remains of a hoodie. It is the 19-year-old murder suspect’s DNA that we find on the clothes that we believe were used in the murder,” says Stefan Olofsson.

According to the police, the murder has clear connections to the gang conflicts in southwest Gothenburg.

“The person who was murdered was previously part of the network to which the suspects now belong,” says local police area manager Christian Nylén.
