A 14-year-old HVB escapee is suspected of having tried to shoot a man dead inside a pub in Nyköping.
After the attempted murder, the boy was wanted – but while the police were chasing him, he is said to have struck again and opened fire at the same pub.
The target is believed to be a man whose relatives were previously subjected to attacks linked to a local conflict.
The likely target was in a pub in Nyköping on the evening of May 3. Shortly before 10 p.m., a young person armed with a gun stepped in and allegedly tried to shoot him.
According to information given to TV4 Nyheterna, the man was saved by the fact that the weapon clicked, that it locked and stopped working.
The police launched a major operation after the attempted murder and were able to identify the suspected perpetrator as a 14-year-old boy through surveillance footage. According to the same information, he must have previously been reported missing after escaping from an HVB home in another part of Sweden. Administrative documents show that last autumn the young teenager was immediately taken into care in accordance with the LVU, the law on the care of young people.
Weapons found after the arrest
The 14-year-old was wanted as a suspect in the pub crime and the police conducted, among other things, internal reconnaissance in the hunt for the boy. Several addresses were also monitored.
A week later, at around 18:00 on Friday, a shooting occurred inside the same pub. Panic broke out at the scene and the guests had to flee. When the investigators looked through the surveillance cameras, they could see that the suspected shooter was the same 14-year-old that the police were looking for.
A few hours later, the police were able to arrest the boy. According to information to TV4 Nyheterna, a gun was also found. He is suspected of the double murder attempts but was released due to his young age and was instead taken into the care of social services.
Secret list of targets
Even in the second crime, the police suspect that the boy was looking for the same target, according to TV4 Nyhetern’s information.
Last fall, the target was on a secret list of possible targets for violent crimes linked to a local conflict in Nyköping, something TV4 Nyheterna previously reported on. Several of the person’s relatives have been victims of crime.
The police are now working to prevent a new cycle of violence from starting.
TV4 Nyheterna has contacted the Nyköping police for a comment.
