Outbreak of the mysterious dance disease “dinga dinga”
Authorities in Uganda are confirming an outbreak of a mysterious illness that causes fever, severe tremors and difficulty walking.
More than 300 people, mostly women and girls, have been affected since November in what is described as a dancing disease. The inhabitants of the affected region call it “dinga dinga”. The expression can be translated as “shake as one dances”, writes the Ugandan newspaper The Monitor.
The causes of the disease are not clear, but the local health director Kiyita Christopher says that antibiotics can help and that the dancing disease heals on its own in a week.
Patience Katusiime, 18, is one of those treated in hospital with “dinga dinga”.
– I felt weak and paralyzed and my body shook uncontrollably as soon as I tried to walk. It was very disturbing, she tells The Monitor.
Chaos in Canada after Trump’s threats
Chaos in Canada after Trump’s threats
Chaos grew on Monday in Canadian politics. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau faced resignation calls even from within his own party after his Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland resigned, writes the BBC.
– It has been an eventful day. It has not been an easy day, said Trudeau, whose popularity is falling after ten years in power.
The background to the finance minister’s resignation is a crack in the view of how the tariff threats and the mocking rhetoric from the US president-elect should be met.
Donald Trump commented on the events in the same style as in recent months. In one post, he again called Canada a “state” and Trudeau a “governor”.

The 26-year-old Luigi Mangione is charged with the murder of Brian Thompson in New York in early December.
Mangione had previously been charged with other, lesser, crimes in connection with the murder. The new charge concerns murder (“first-degree murder”).

Prosecutors are charging Mangione with “murder as an act of terrorism,” a section of New York State’s criminal code for murders deemed to be carried out to intimidate or subdue the population.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israeli troops will remain in the area of Syria recently entered “until another agreement is reached that guarantees Israel’s security.” This is reported by AP.
It was shortly after the fall of dictator Bashar al-Assad and the Syrian regime that Israeli troops entered Syria and created what is called a “buffer zone”. They entered via the Golan Heights, an area Israel had already annexed from Syria. The reason given was concern that new rulers in Syria will gain access to chemical warfare weapons.
The AP reports that Netanyahu’s latest statement was made on Mount Hermon and will be the first time a sitting Israeli leader is on Syrian territory.

Suspected poison attempt against Putin critic’s relative
Police in Berlin are investigating a possible case of poisoning of a German-Russian woman. Russian regime critic Vladimir Kara-Murza says his mother is in hospital but poisoning has not been confirmed.
The information about the suspected poisoning comes from the woman herself, who stated at the hospital that she thought she had been poisoned, writes the Berlin police on X.
She was not named by the police, but was quickly revealed by Der Spiegel to be very close to Russian opposition leader Vladimir Kara-Murza.
This led to speculation that the woman had been exposed to a nerve agent. Her blood, clothes, and apartment are being examined as part of the investigation, according to the Berlin police.
Several German media reported that the woman is Vladimir Kara-Murza’s mother. The regime critic herself writes on Telegram that she is in hospital, but that the doctors have not yet been able to establish that she has been poisoned.
Vladimir Kara-Murza had been sentenced to 25 years in prison in Russia, but was part of a prisoner exchange in August this year and currently lives in Berlin. In Russia, he was subjected to two attempted murders by poison.
