Two arrested after the shooting at police officers in Östersund

Two men have been detained and arrested after the shooting at police officers in Östersund that took place on Saturday. According to the police, both arrests took place peacefully, and it is not suspected that there are more perpetrators.

It was around 21:00 on Saturday evening that the police made a vehicle stop in central Östersund and in connection with the intervention were shot at. The car then fled at high speed and a car chase, northbound, along the E45 was initiated.

Since then, an intensive operation has been underway, and on Sunday shortly after lunch, the police announced that they had detained two men in the case.

Arrested in various places

One of the men was arrested south of Lit, and the other was arrested on highway 87, east of Östersund.

After questioning, both men have been arrested by prosecutors, who are now leading the investigation. The classification is attempted murder and aggravated weapons offences.

No one was physically injured in the shooting.

The investigative work continues

During the operation, all available police patrols, as well as police dogs, drones and helicopters participated. Regional and national task forces have also participated.

According to the police, the investigative work is now continuing with, among other things, interrogations, safeguarding of traces and technical examinations.

In connection with the shooting, the police patrol fired shots at the vehicle in question, something which, according to routine, will also be investigated by the police department for special investigations.
