Norfolk General Hospital and West Haldimand General Hospital are getting more than $2 million each in provincial government funding.
The funding, announced Thursday, will help the two hospitals address a range of upgrades and improvements.
“This funding will allow us to upgrade our nurse call system and replace outdated mechanical and building equipment throughout Norfolk General Hospital,” Jason Smith, the hospital’s director of facilities and capital projects, said in a statement. “Norfolk General’s mission is to relieve illness and suffering, and to help people live healthier lives and this funding will help provide that.”
Norfolk General is receiving $2,261,469 including one-time funding in the amount of $1.6 million through the province’s Exceptional Circumstance Project grant program. The program supports critical infrastructure upgrades and repairs.
This funding is part of a more than $182 million investment by the provincial government in support of 131 hospitals and 65 community health centers across the province. The money is coming from the province’s Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund and the Community Infrastructure Renewal Fund.
The money is meant to address urgent infrastructure renewal needs, such as upgrades or replacements of roofs, windows, security systems, fire alarms, and backup generators.
Meanwhile, West Haldimand General is getting $2,374,571 from the province. The money will be used to renovate the emergency department’s canopy and funding an electrical service/distribution project.
“West Haldimand General Hospital is very pleased with the funding that has been allocated for infrastructure improvements at WHGH,” Todd Stepaniuk, the hospital’s president and CEO, said in a statement. “With this additional funding, we will be able to move forward with the replacement of equipment that is critical to the plant operations.”
