Two apartment fires on same street in Wallaceburg over weekend

Firefighters were called to two apartment fires on the same street in Wallaceburg on the weekend.

Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services reports firefighters from Station No. 3 Wallaceburg and Station No. 2 Chatham were called to a structure fire at 475 Wallace St. just after 7 pm Saturday.

The fire was contained to the apartment, however, several units below suffered water damage, stated a CKFES media release.

No injuries were reported and the fire scene is currently being held by CKFES for investigation.

No further details will be released as this time, CKFES added.

Firefighters from the same stations were also called to 595 Wallace St. just after 3 am Sunday regarding reports of smoke coming from the boarded up property.

Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the second storey of the multi-residential structure and flames coming out the rear door, CKFES said.

Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire from the open door, however, worked for several more hours to gain access to the rest of the boarded structure.”

Fire crews completed primary and secondary searches of the building to ensure it was empty before turning the property back over to the owner, CKFES said.

No injuries were reported, CKFES said, adding the cause is undetermined and the damage estimate is unknown.
