Twitter sue Threads

Twitter has sued Meta over the company’s new Threads app, claiming it’s an ‘impersonator’ of Twitter created by former company employees.

Meta recently launched its Twitter competitor called Threads, a text-based app with full integration with Instagram. However, it is certain that Musk is uncomfortable with this.

Twitter sues Meta’s Threads move

Meta launched its new app on both iOS and Android on Wednesday and has since gained more than 30 million users and the title of “Twitter killer.” While the app has been criticized for its data tracking, which is not unlike Instagram’s data tracking, users seem to enjoy the full Instagram integration that allows for seamless migration of followers from a user’s Instagram account to their Threads account.

While many are excited about the launch, a letter addressed to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, obtained by Semafor, claims that Twitter is misappropriating trade secrets by Meta along with other intellectual property. Specifically, the letter alleges Meta hired former Twitter employees who had access to confidential company information over the past year, “with ongoing obligations to Twitter” and “improperly maintained Twitter documents and electronic devices.”

Twitter alleges that Meta deliberately assigned this former Twitter to Threads app development, significantly speeding up the release timeline, while simultaneously violating the ongoing obligations of former employees to Twitter.
