Twitter now knows how to make GIFs with the iPhone camera

The GIF is not dead, or worse, reserved for boomers! Twitter has just created a surprise by integrating a little belatedly, in its iOS application, a new feature that allows you to generate animated images on the fly, using the iPhone’s camera directly.

This new shooting mode has been added to the carousel of capture modes already present. To find it, all you have to do is write a new tweet and press the camera icon. This is also the new capture mode that is selected by default in the iOS mobile application. For now, capturing animated GIFs is only available on iPhones. The platform did not give any information for a possible date of availability on Android.

Invented in 1987 and widely popularized in the 2010s on social networks, animated GIFs, often used to immortalize memes, seem to see their popularity decline. According to a recent article by Viceyoung Internet users think that “animated GIFs are outdated and are now for boomers”.
