Musk, who emphasized the importance of freedom of speech in his speeches, previously promised to allow the account to function, but changed Twitter’s rules on the fly.
Twitter shut down its owner on Wednesday Elon Musk’s the Elonjet account that followed the private plane’s flights, say, among other things The Guardian (you are switching to another service), The Verge (you’re moving to another service) and The Intercept (you will switch to another service).
Elonjet tweeted on Wednesday that the account had been temporarily suspended “for violating the Twitter rules”. An hour later, the account was completely closed.
Musk, the owner of Twitter, said that after the account was closed, the messaging service changed its rules.
– Any accounts that contain anyone’s real-time location information will be closed as they pose a physical security risk.
According to Musk, Twitter is also no longer allowed to publish updates that lead to web pages that provide real-time location information. Instead, the publication of location information “slightly late” is allowed.
The owner of the Elonjet account that followed the flights of Musk’s private plane is a Florida university student Jack Sweeneywho says he is interested in aviation.
He has also followed on his different accounts, for example Bill Gates, By Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg’s and private jet flights of Russian oligarchs. These accounts were still public after the Elonjet account was closed, but eventually Twitter closed them down as well. Finally, Twitter closed Sweeney’s personal account.
According to Musk, a “crazy harasser” had followed the car carrying his child in Los Angeles on Wednesday, thinking Musk was in the car. The person following the car stopped the car from moving and climbed onto its hood, Musk writes.
Musk says he will take legal action against Sweeney and “organizations” he claims supported harming his family.
The closing of the Elonjet account is the latest twist in Twitter’s rapid changes in direction since Musk bought the company and became the company’s CEO.
Twitter has returned several previously closed accounts to the service, including the former president of the United States Donald Trump’s the account.
Musk has called for freedom of speech in connection with the reopening of closed accounts.
– My commitment to freedom of speech even extends to the fact that I will not close the account that follows my plane, even if it is a direct personal security risk, Musk you promised (you switch to another service) still in November.
The Guardian says that Twitter did not respond to its request for contact on the subject. Musk fired the majority of the company’s communications department after the company was transferred to his private ownership.
