Twitch streamer Trymacs’ survival show hits the spot – but critics claim it’s copying 7 vs. Wild

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

After the Twitch streamer Maximilian “Trymacs” Stemmler was not allowed to take part in the survival show 7 vs. Wild, he quickly developed his own format. Now the first episodes of “Nerd in the Dirt” have run and with the success come the critics.

What is this show? With “Nerd in the Dirt”, the twitch streamer Trymacs released its own survival format. 4 absolute survival novices – Trymacs and his buddies – try to make it through the wilderness.

They are led by ex-soldier Otto “Bulletproof” Karasch, who has already proven his survival expertise on the YouTube show 7 vs. Wild. The first stage for the nerds was a crossing of Finland at -30°. Further seasons in different climate zones are planned.

Trymacs’ new show hits #2 on YouTube Trends

Where is the show on? The first episode of “Nerd in the Dirt” was released on December 26th on the Trymacs YouTube channel and has already received over 1 million views. The video even made it to #2 in YouTube Trends.

Two more episodes have since been released. Trymacs has shown good timing with this: the last episode of 7 vs. Wild aired on December 29th and now he can fill the gap for survival fans.

But there is already the catch: The Twitch streamer had already had to listen to criticism in advance that he was only copying the successful survival show. And also under the 1st episode of Nerd in the Dirt there were comments in the style of “7 vs. Wild ordered on Wish”, with which the series is described as a cheap knock-off.

Trymacs has now issued a statement on the copy allegations.

Trymacs: “Only the genre is the same”

What does Trymacs say about the allegations? In a stream, Trymacs made a statement about the allegations that he used 7 vs. Wild for Nerd in the Dirt. The streamer rejects the allegations that the two formats only have the survival genre in common.

Although Trymacs admits that he would have liked to have been part of the second season of 7 vs. Wild and only created Nerd in the Dirt because it didn’t work out with his participation. Nevertheless, there are big differences between the series:

  • In 7 vs Wild, the contestants are on their own in complete isolation while the nerds travel as a group
  • The participants of 7 vs. Wild all have more or less survival experience, while Trymacs and his buddies are complete beginners who are only accompanied by an expert
  • 7 vs. Wild is about surviving in a specific location with minimal gear, while Nerd in the Dirt is about covering daily distances that also use skis and dog sleds
  • In addition, the climate is very different: 7 vs. Wild games in the tropics, Nerd in the Dirt in icy Finland
  • As for the last argument, it has to be said that the first season of 7 vs. Wild was filmed in Sweden at the end of August 2021. It wasn’t -30° there, but it was a long way from tropical temperatures.

How do viewers see it all? There are some mixed views in the comments below a YouTube video of Trymacs’ statement. Many fans of the streamer see little in common between the formats.

They joke that the only thing the series have in common is survival expert Otto “Bulletproof” Karasch, who has already received his second holiday as a gift in this way.

Others explain: It’s not about Trymacs copying the show 1:1. Instead, they accuse him of profiting from the survival hype that 7 vs. Wild triggered. But that’s just supply and demand, writes a viewer (via YouTube).

While Trymacs was preparing to fight for survival in the Finnish wilderness while filming Nerd in the Dirt, he was concerned above all: What will become of his account in the mobile game Clash of Clans? Luckily, he had the right solution ready and quickly hired his girlfriend.
