Twitch streamer surprises the CoD Warzone 2 community by banning a cheater live

Cheaters can cause frustration in almost any multiplayer game. It’s all the nicer when a suspicious player is banned live. Twitch streamer Symfuhny also has this joyful experience in Call of Duty Warzone 2.

Who is it about?

  • Mason “Symfuhny” Lanier is an American Twitch streamer and YouTuber
  • Symfuhny is best known for Call of Duty Warzone 1 and 2 content.
  • Symfuhny has 3.9 million followers on Twitch and has streamed to an average of 5,800 viewers (via sullygnome) over the past 90 days (as of April 20, 2023).
  • How did Symfuhny ban a cheater? The streamer was streaming battle royale shooter CoD Warzone 2 again on April 19 when he and his fellow players were eliminated by a suspicious-looking player.

The streamer decided to watch the player afterwards and see if their behavior appeared normal and legitimate, or if a report was warranted. The result: Not only Symfuhny, but also his teammates are convinced that the suspicious player is using a wallhack.

As a result, the streamer decided to report the player via the CoD Warzone 2 in-game feature and advised his fellow players to do the same: “Oh my god! Yes, report him very quickly and see if it helps.”

A few seconds later the cheater got caught, he was banned live in front of more than 4,000 spectators. Symfuhny himself responded with joyful laughter and an apt “He’s gone”.

How is the community reacting? There was much joy to be seen in Symfuhny’s live chat when the cheater was banned. From an astounded “that was quick”, to written “lets go” calls, to an “ez clap”, everything was there that could somehow symbolize joy about the ban.

On Reddit, the astonishment at the quick ban was great. For example, one user wrote, “Anti-cheat systems often only block cheaters when they’re reported or caught in a ban wave,” stating, “Cheaters are rarely banned immediately upon detection as it gives the cheat makers a lot of information about it.” which part of their code is being captured by the anti-cheat system (via Reddit).”

Symfuhny, the streamer’s teammates and the remaining teams in the affected “Warzone 2” lobby should have been happy about the ban, even if the ban on a single player is just a small victory in the fight against scammers.

A major victory came to Call of Duty’s anti-cheat system in early April, when it was announced that Ricochet would forta detect hardware cheaters. So players using gadgets to compensate for weapon recoil for example:
