The excitement around the Twitch streamer Jason Thor Hall does not tear off. He had made a mistake in WoW and was criticized for it. But even weeks after the incident, “Pirate Software” has to struggle with the aftermath. Now he had an indie game from Steam removed at short notice. The developer says: He misused copyright.
What was the mistake? The Twitch streamer Pirate Software, a former Blizzard employee, let his group down in a pull at World of Warcraft Hardcore in mid-January. At WoW Hardcore, characters that die in games are constantly lost.
The group had returned to a pull, but then resumed the fight. While the others fought, Pirate ran software with his magician to the exit. He said he couldn’t help because he has no mana for the necessary spell. But he would have had ways to restore mana how he was later accused of. Two of the guild members died in the pull.
As a result, Pirate Software was criticized for having made the Kakerlake (The Roach) and taking no responsibility for his escape. He was thrown out of the guild of onlyfangs and subsequently ended his stream from WoW.
Indie game takes pirate software into play as a cockroach
That was the incident now: In the game “Idle Streaming Bonanza”, which is supposed to appear on Steam, well -known streamers are parodied. Figures such as CQX (XQC), Mokpane (Pokiman) or Asmonsilver (Asmongold) appear in it. The streamers are presented in connection with scandals or well-known behavior patterns: Pokiman is about their cookies, at Drdisrespect about the grooming allegations.
The developer himself published a clip on Reddit in January, which now also showed Pirate Software as a new figure: Hall has the shape of a cockroach, a clear allusion to his escape from WoW. The voice of Pirate Software can also be heard in the scene.
Pirate software then issued a DMCA strike against the game and it was removed from Steam for a short time.
Pirate software justifies the strike by the fact that the developer cannot simply take his voice into the game without consent. However, the developer issued an objection to the DMCA strike and the game is back on Steam.
Pirate software wants to bring developers to court
That is the current status: Pirate software says: “The developer submitted a counterclaim against me. We will bring you to court. You will lose. You cannot use the portrait or voice of someone without its permission in one game. It’s a really stupid thing. “
The developer says, however, that he only shared a “possible build” on Reddit. That is on his PC and not in the game. There would be no build with Pirate software on Steam.
Videos against Pirate Software are also restricted
That is noticeable: In the past few days, two critical videos on Pirate Software have appeared, but they have apparently disappeared from YouTube or have been otherwise restricted.
A big video came from Quin69 (via Sportskeeda). However, he said the restriction of the video was not the result of a “copyright strike”, but apparently comes from the community. Quin69 suspected that his critical video could have been reported by fans of Pirate software.
Pirate software states that he did nothing against the video. That has nothing to do with him. This is a strike against the community guidelines, not because of copyright law.
An even more critical video than that of Quin69 gave Jokerd. He says his video was restricted for cyberbullying and harassment. He has never experienced anything like that.
Pirate software says: YouTube takes the videos down, not him
Here, too, Pirate Software (via Arazu.io) says that he did nothing, but youtube took it down. This is misrepresented on Reddit. People should find out before they blame him.
In the past few weeks, Pirate Software, who had strong growth on YouTube and Twish for a year, suddenly criticized on all fronts for his behavior: Successful streamer ramponed his reputation because he is next to it in MMORPGs
