Twitch streamer kisses devil, runs invisible through minefields, enchants viewers

The new roleplaying game Baldur’s Gate 3 is shaking up Twitch: One of the winners of the new roleplaying hype is the Brazilian streamer “Luality”, who streams in English: She was able to increase her viewership by 75% because her clips as a creative magician are simply good.

Who is this?

  • Luality is a rather small streamer on Twitch, streaming from Brazil: Although she has been on the air for more than 1,600 hours a year since 2017, so she does it full time, she has only had slow growth on Twitch: Over the last 6 years went step by step to almost 300 spectators.
  • But since Baldur’s Gate 3 has been out, her channel has experienced an upswing: she currently has around 630 viewers when she shows the role-playing game. That’s a 75% increase from the week before Baldur’s Gate 3.
  • Her clips on Twitch of her creatively solving, or at least trying to solve, problems in Baldur’s Gate 3 and her reaction to them charm viewers.

Problem solving with spells doesn’t always work in Baldur’s Gate 3

This clip is making them famous: In August, Luality released a clip showing her attempting to walk through a plant minefield using the Invisibility spell.

That turns out to be not a very good idea.

Motionless, she watches her character and the whole screen burst into flames like someone dropped napalm and mutters the famous meme, “It’s fine.”

The clip is also nice, where she apparently wants to cool down her heroine with an ice magic, in order to flirt with her fellow Tiefling, Kerlach. Again, her reaction is adorable.

After getting startled by the sparks flying, she finally concludes, “That’s so cute.”

Baldur’s Gate 3 changes Twitch, like Among Us before it

Why is Baldur’s Gate 3 making Twitch more exciting right now? Normally, “solo RPGs” are not games that do particularly well on Twitch, you usually play them for yourself. Because the “linear storyline” that everyone participates in is otherwise quickly familiar from watching and the game loses its appeal.

But Baldur’s Gate 3 has an interesting effect: With its focus on creative problem solving and the many different paths you can take in the game, everyone has their own gaming experience. Because the game is turn-based and rather ruug, the streamer’s personality comes through well and seems stronger.

The game “Among Us” had a similar effect during the pandemic, which also required roleplay and discussion from streamers and which, post-Fortnite, propelled a new generation of streamers into stars: less because of their great reflexes and gameplay understanding, but because of theirs humor and personality.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is changing the landscape on Twitch right now. Where hard shooter players are usually on the way up in gaming, things are getting creative and you see fresh faces:

Baldur’s Gate 3 is number 1 on Twitch, turns role players into stars: one is even an NPC in the game
