In League of Legends, there was an international incident in South Korea: The twitch streamer Ashkan “TF Blade” Homyounie messed it up so badly with the LoL players there during his trip to South Korea that it had consequences for him. He was banned. Other US streamers in South Korea were also punished by Riot Korea.
Who is TF Blade?
TF Blade takes on pros and celebrities in South Korea
This is the new TF Blade scandal: TF Blade and a number of other LoL streamers traveled to South Korea for a “boot camp”, hoping to compete against the best in the game. Such a trip loosens up everyday LoL life and brings viewers. Because the solo cue in North America is considered bad, if you make it in South Korea, you can make it anywhere.
As an e-sports journalist summarizes on Twitter, the disputes quickly began:
The German streamer NoWay4U commented on this mass ban with irritation on Twitter:
Streamers used to be unreasonable: I’m just toxic
TF Blade says: He made a statement on Twitter and said: He received 3 bans in one day, which must be a new record.
He just can’t control himself and flame trolls and bad players. He won’t apologize for that either. He’s only interested in winning.
He admits he’s toxic and deserves the bans. But so many others are just bad and would not be banned.
What he finds unfair is that he now gets the blame just because Riot Korea is so stupid and also bans other streamers.
If you want to win in Korea, you have to be friendly
That’s behind it. Unfortunately, TF Blade corresponds to the worst clichés you can have of LoL players in 2023 as in 2019.
He is viewed critically in the community. On Reddit, it’s not surprising how angry Koreans react when someone comes along and behaves in such a provocative manner. We also know from other trips by aggressive US streamers how quickly word of bad behavior spreads in Korea and how negatively they react to these players.
They say TF Blade just doesn’t learn it. How can you insult the local players. In fact, TF Blade just seems to be someone who neither wants nor can change.
