Twitch streamer is insulted in Valorant

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Twitch streamer AriaSaki showed how she played the hero shooter Valorant. However, she was verbally abused by a team member. She posted the clip on Twitter, where users commented on the problem of sexism in games.

Who is the person you are talking about? Angela “AriaSaki” Don (28) is a Canadian streamer active on Twitch and YouTube. She keeps playing games like Overwatch 2 or Valorant in her streams. In the latter, the streamer recently found herself in a very awkward situation.

What happened on the stream? On February 2nd, 2023, AriaSaki hosted a live stream where she played Valorant. While she is gambling, an incident occurs. A teammate comments on her gameplay, and she tells him to shut up. As a result, another team member insults her in the worst possible way.

His verbal attack lasted a full 20 seconds. He insults her as a “bitch” and then refers to her several times as “dirty girl” and “whore”. At first, the streamer seems quite surprised by the other’s emotional outburst.

But AriaSaki remains calm and asks: “Wow! Who hurt you, my boy?” The team member then starts again with violent abuse and makes a completely inappropriate comment.

AriaSaki shared a snippet of the clip on Twitter and said: “His friend was annoying to communicate with and backseated us on top of that. I said ‘shut up’ and that was the answer. To be honest I was a bit scared. Not at the words… But at the thought of someone going so far as to verbally abuse an angry woman. He’s getting even more despicable, by the way.”

In another post, the streamer makes it clear that it was not without reason that she asked him to be silent: if the communication or the back seat had made sense, that would have been different. But the other would probably have written instructions and commands all the time, like “Don’t duck! Only pros do that!”

How is the community reacting? In the Twitter comments, numerous users express their anger at the player’s behavior and are of the opinion: This is not possible at all. Occasionally, however, one also reads comments that dismiss this as a joke by the player and believe that AriaSaki overreacted.

Above all, many are saddened by the fact that sexist behavior in gaming is not an isolated case, but that several women are repeatedly attacked with inappropriate comments. Another streamer shares her own experience on the subject in a clip, and users write comments like:

  • HeyYaNITO: “What is really sad is the fact that there are thousands of women who are treated like this every day. So many of the reports go unpunished. I’m glad you have a platform to raise the issue, but I still feel bad for those who don’t. Who raised these angry misogynistic toddlers.”
  • Jayparth: “People are so small that they hide behind their screen and take pride in saying hateful things, they have nothing useful to be proud of. I’m sorry you had to deal with that scumbag, I hope you’re feeling better. Guys, we have to do better.”
  • Mike: “I’m so sorry you had to listen to that. It’s totally unacceptable for people to just lose their minds and berate complete strangers. Something like that should result in a lifetime ban, but instead people just get away with it.”
  • Some also argue that games should punish such players more severely, such as banning them for life. They condemn the inappropriate behavior and show sympathy towards the streamer.
