Twitch streamer Asmongold explains why Andrew Tate’s arrest is a stroke of luck for him

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

The arrest of former kickboxer Andrew Tate on 12/29/2022 was a huge topic at the end of the year. While many were concerned with the question of guilt and possible consequences for Tate, some content creators were probably interested in a completely different aspect of the story: MMORPG streamer Asmongold explained on Twitch how wonderful the whole thing is for him.

What is it with Andrew Tate? Former kickboxer Andrew Tate became a hugely controversial figure as an influencer on TikTok and other platforms. Critics accuse him of misogyny and the glorification of a toxic form of masculinity.

Andrew Tate was banned from mainstream social media in 2022 and has been banned from Twitter since 2017. New Twitter CEO Elon Musk lifted the ban in November 2022.

In gaming, Tate indirectly brought down one of the most powerful team bosses in League of Legends:

How did the arrest come about? Andrew Tate used his Twitter comeback to start a fight with climate activist Greta Thunberg. Their cool answer probably drove him so upset that he accidentally doxxed himself in an answer video: A pizza box could be seen in the video, which apparently gave the Romanian police an indication of Tate’s whereabouts.

In his anger, Tate had apparently forgotten that he was wanted in Romania on suspicion of human trafficking, rape and organized crime. On December 29, 2022, Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan were arrested by the Romanian authorities.

Streamers can farm content with Tate

How do Twitch streamers come into play? Some content creators had discovered Tate as a source of provocative content long before his arrest. A young Fortnite streamer got love tips from Tate, a German streamer caused a stir when he chanted “Free Andrew Tate” at gamescom 2022.

The arrest of the Tate brothers and the prospect of a trial probably drove some streamers to the dollar signs in their eyes. For example, MMORPG streamer Asmongold watched footage of the arrest in a stream and explained how grateful he was – not that Tate could be held accountable, but because he had content for at least 2 weeks.

Asmongold goes even further and is already dreaming of a trial that he can then milk properly. The streamer is actually known for its content on WoW and MMORPGs, but had already exploited the trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard in this way:

If there is a trial, I’m sure Andrew Tate – selfish as he is – will have it televised. We’ll get up at 8 a.m. every day to watch this. […] I’m so excited about it. All videos about it will be monetized, we will make a lot of money from it. It’s just great. We are entering a new golden age.

The outcome of a possible trial, on the other hand, is completely irrelevant to him, according to Asmongold. He doesn’t give a shit, that’s the truth. We have included the corresponding clip for you here:

Viewers are unsure: cunning or just immature?

How are Asmongold’s statements received? Not good at all. On reddit, members of the LivestreamFail community accused Asmongold of lacking maturity. Pretending not to care to look cool is teen stuff (via reddit).

The casual manner in which Asmongold is discussing a trial that could involve serious crimes is perceived as inappropriate. Some see it as the streamer’s attempt to put his previous statements into perspective.

Asmongold said there was a 50 percent chance “the government” would frame the Tate brothers. He compared the situation of the brothers with that of human rights activist Martin Luther King.

Asmongold has since apologized for these statements and admitted to having been wrong. That was stupid and untrue, according to the streamer (via Twitch).

Well, one such accusation on reddit is that he’s trying to downplay his previous comments by claiming he doesn’t care about anything and only content (via reddit).

Strangely enough, Asmongold made the statements about how much money he could make from broadcasting a Tate trial on his secondary channel, zackrawrr. In contrast to its main channel Asmongold, it is not monetized at all.
