The Twitch streamer and professional football player of 1. FC Nuremberg, Niklas-Wilson “Willy” Sommer (26), posted a photo of himself in the FC Bayern Munich jersey on Instagram. This triggered a brutal backlash from some fans of the “club”.
This was the reaction to the photo: 1. FC Nuremberg played against 1. FC Magdeburg on Saturday and lost 4-0. Posters read: “Niklas Wilson, you’re shit, like FCB” and “Wilson, piss off, you Bayern pig.”
But that was not enough, according to a report by 1. FC Nuremberg, Wilson was attacked on the street in Nuremberg and had to receive medical attention.
As the club announced, he was previously “ambushed on his own doorstep”. In Nuremberg, it is believed that the attack was a direct reaction to the photo (via fcn).
Did something happen to him? The 26-year-old apparently had to receive medical attention, but does not appear to be seriously injured.
Niklas Wilson was trained at Nuremberg from 2007 and went through the youth, U17 and U19 teams there until 2019. After stints in Stuttgart, Streda and Mannheim, he has been back in Nuremberg’s second team since September 27, 2023. Wilson plays in the Regionalliga Bayern and has played 5 games this year. He plays right back.
The club says: We do not accept this
This is what the club says: Nuremberg says the people who attacked the player “crossed all boundaries.”
The photo was “deleted shortly after publication and the player publicly apologized.”
It is not acceptable for players to be attacked. The club condemns this behavior in the strongest possible terms.
The police began their investigation that night.
In the comments on the tweet, many fans distance themselves from the violence. Even if Niklas-Wilson’s action was not “cool”, that does not justify such a sick thing, they say.
The last time we reported on Niklas-Wilson Sommer, it was about a difficult situation with his finances.
What’s bizarre is that you don’t hear anything about the incident if you follow the streamer on YouTube, because he only posts completely normal, obviously prepared content. For example, he comments on Let’s Hugo on 7 vs. Wild or strange dating formats.
This is what’s behind it: There is a group around the big German Twitch streamer EliasN97 that is strongly connected to football and the football simulation from EA FIFA/EA FC. They also start joint projects and products. The former football professional Sidney Friede belongs to this group, as does the still active professional Niklas-Wilson Sommer.
However, this dual role as influencer and football professional is viewed critically by hardcore fans.
For ultra football fans, Twitch is evil commerce, has nothing to do with football and players like Niklas Wilson are particularly in their sights.
The “rivalry” between 1. FC Nuremberg and Bayern Munich may seem rather ridiculous to some, but for some it is no fun, for them football is their life and they cross every line. Trymacs also had to realize this: Twitch streamer feels the full anger of hardcore football fans: “I have never divided people so much”
