IShowSpeed has one scandal after another and has become one of the most successful streamers in the world. But only on YouTube, because Twitch apparently banned him permanently in 2021. Now the ban on the Rüpel streamer has surprisingly been lifted.
What kind of streamer is this? 18-year-old Darren “IShowSpeed” Watkins is known for his hyper personality. He regularly causes scandals. He gained increasing popularity on YouTube in 2021. However, in December of the same year, he was banned from Twitch indefinitely.
However, this “permaban” didn’t stop him from drawing attention to himself with further escapades on YouTube:
Recently, things have calmed down a bit for the now 18-year-old after he was admitted to hospital in the summer with severe headaches and facial swelling and shortly afterwards accidentally exposed himself in a stream.
Despite all the scandals – or perhaps because of them – IShowSpeed continued to gain popularity in the years since his ban from Twitch and was the biggest streamer on YouTube in 2022. Now his Twitch ban has been quietly lifted.
Twitch unbans IShowSpeed, but it still streams on YouTube
What is unbanning all about? After almost 2 years, the unbanning of the scandal streamer was rather unspectacular: the channel is simply available again and currently has 241,000 followers (as of October 13, 2023).
The unbanning doesn’t come completely out of nowhere: Dan Clancy, the CEO of Twitch, had already granted the possibility of giving banned streamers a second chance in September. It is not known why this streamer was chosen at this time.
It is also unclear whether IShowSpeed plans to return to Twitch. So far he hasn’t used his newfound freedom. He is followed by over 20 million people on YouTube, a considerable reach. He probably won’t want to jeopardize this lightly by changing platforms.
Even if the unbanning of IShowSpeed was rather unspectacular, it opens up exciting possibilities. Finally, there are other candidates who have been banned on Twitch for years and could now hope to be unbanned.
The permanent ban of the great DrDisrespect, for example, is still a big secret today. Now the question arises as to whether “Doc” could come back to Twitch after all these years.
