Who is the Twitch CEO? The current CEO of Twitch is Dan Clancy. He succeeded Emmet Shear in March 2023, who said he left the company primarily due to the birth of his son. Shear has led Twitch for a total of 16 years since its inception.

Shortly after Clancy was installed as the new CEO, streamers still had high hopes that he would address the platform’s known problems. So far, among other things, he has announced the end of big million-dollar deals for streamers on YouTube and Twitch at Twitch-Con. In June 2023 he spoke about the ongoing ban on gambling on the platform.
What was the scope of the interview? The interview was conducted by the Twitch streamer roflgator. He is primarily known for his VR chat streams, in which he uses a scantily clad anime girl as an avatar. He used to appear primarily with an alligator avatar, hence the name.

What did Dan Clancy have to say? The interview focused, among other things, on the current Twitch regulations surrounding suggestive content, especially scantily clad streamers. Just a few months ago, such streams were officially not allowed on Twitch, but in mid-December the platform changed its rules.
Shortly after the rule adjustment, a clip went viral in which a seemingly naked streamer appeared to only cover the most important parts of her body with censorship bars. The new rules have now been withdrawn.
In the interview, Clancy states that, among other things, they are working on giving users the option to hide or blur explicit content on Twitch.

Is using black bars okay? According to him, using black bars as censorship is also completely compliant with the rules: the viewer would fall victim to the illusion that the streamer is naked, when in fact he is still wearing clothes. He also says he would appreciate women behind this content.
The CEO also had words of support for the predominantly female streamers:
They make a living, they don’t hurt anyone, and people are the ones watching and deciding whether to watch or not. And I think that sometimes people use derogatory words for them, mischaracterize them, denigrate them, and act as if what they’re doing is somehow wrong or inappropriate. I absolutely disagree with that.
I think it’s very important to realize that they aren’t hurting anyone. These are adults and so are the people who want to watch them. That’s very different from what happens when you talk about pornography or other things – it’s not that. It has a sexual theme.
This is for them because I think they get a lot of abuse on our website. That is not justified.

What will happen next with the explicit content? Based on the statements, it can be assumed that the more explicit content will return to Twitch sooner or later. Apparently it’s important to Dan Clancy to put the streamers in a positive light and to give users an on and off button.
