Popular MMORPG streamer Asmongold was banned from streaming on Twitch for 24 hours. The reason was the racist statement made by a stranger in the Diablo Immortal chat. In a YouTube video, the streamer vents and says he finds the ban “disgusting and an insult.”
Who is Asmongold? Asmongold is one of the biggest streamers and YouTubers in the MMORPG space in the world. With over 3.2 million followers on Twitch and more than 1.4 million subscribers on YouTube, he is one of the most influential figures in the genre.
He gained notoriety primarily through his streams in the game World of Warcraft, in which he has been active since 2006. But recently other games like Final Fantasy 14 or Diablo Immortal have also been on his streaming schedule.

However, Asmongold had to do without Twitch for 24 hours. His second channel “zackrawrr” (via twitch.tv) was banned, which also affected his main channel. As a streamer, he may not be seen on the platform for a day. The strict ban rules at Twitch often cause trouble.
Asmongold is very disappointed by the ban and even feels offended. Find out here how it came about and what he says about it.

Asmongold feels offended by Twitch
The streamer published a video on YouTube with a statement on the situation. For almost 9 minutes, Asmongold talks about how the whole situation upsets him.
He starts with a joke, but then gets very serious and explains his disappointments to Twitch.
I streamed Diablo Immortal. That alone might be grounds for a ban, but Twitch decided to do something even more stupid.
He was banned for showing an unmoderated chat on stream that contained a racist expression for seconds.
This wasn’t his chat on Twitch, it was the chat box in Diablo Immortal. Diablo Immortal’s chat has been noticed by many as particularly toxic, even if that only applies to a small proportion of players. Asmongold’s own chat pointed this out to him, but he didn’t want to make a big deal out of it.
This gives the person exactly what they want – attention. But I didn’t want to pay any attention to the person. Unfortunately, Twitch wanted that.
In this case he complains about the interpretation of history. In his eyes, Twitch seems to think that he supports such racist statements.
Asmongold explains that he even trains his mod team to spot stealth codes in chat to stop discrimination. He has twitch emotes, which are critical for him due to such ambiguities, blocked from the outset.
The fact that he is now being blocked precisely because of unmoderated chats does not want to cross his mind.
What does that say to the community? Go to the streamer and spam racist language. Then he will be banned. […] Such words become a weapon against streamers. […] In the end, this creates even more racism.
It is clear to him that he will block all of his in-game chats from now on. He sees Twitch no longer able to see the context. He even says that the Twitch moderators are otherwise doing a good job – but that’s “damn ridiculous”.
Asmongold would even think the reason for the ban was ok if every other person who didn’t hide their chat would treat it the same way. He then goes into a certain double standard that clearly racist streamers also have a platform with Twitch in some cases.
What bothers him most, however, is the picture Twitch apparently has of him as a streamer.
The worst part for me is the implication that I’m promoting racism or homophobia in my stream. […] I’m frustrated and upset with Twitch.

A controversial topic – how do you see it? Was the ban justified? Should Twitch pay more attention to the circumstances, as sometimes happens with the hot tub streams, or do you think that just showing such expressions is enough for a ban.
