Twisters misses the perfect ending by a hairs breadth –

Twisters triumphed at the box office this weekend. In the US, the disaster film grossed 80.5 million US dollars, making it the highest grossing film after Inside Out 2 and Dune: Part Two. third most successful start of the year Worldwide, the loose Twister sequel grossed $123 million, Variety reports.

Most viewers are enthusiastic: In the USA, the film received a Cinemascore of A- and beyond that, the majority of Twisters reactions show great satisfaction with the action blockbuster. There is only one thing that bothers many fans: the ending. The crucial step is missing here.

Warning, there are spoilers for Twisters!

Because of Steven Spielberg, the ending of Twisters was changed: No kiss between Kate and Tyler

Like the original from 1996, Twisters combines the action-packed hunt for tornadoes with a stormy love story between the main characters, in this case Kate Cooper (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and Tyler Owens (Glen Powell). From the first second it is clear that the two are meant for each other.

Nonetheless the film denies us the big kiss in the finale. Not only is this criminal because Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell have incredible chemistry together – the scene was even filmed! Below you can watch a video from the filming that captures the moment from a distance:

Why on earth was this scene cut? In an interview with Collider, Edgar-Jones lets it be known that producer Steven Spielberg, who made one of the most successful films three years ago with West Side Story, greatest love stories ever said, is responsible for the kiss ending up on the cutting room floor.

Edgar Jones says:

I think that was a Spielberg comment, right? I think it keeps the film from being too clichéd. There’s something really wonderful about feeling like there’s a sequel. This is not the end of their story. They are connected by their shared passion for something.

Co-star Powell adds:

I also believe that this film is not about them finding love. It is about that Kate returns to what she loveswhich is tornado chasing. That’s what you see at the end of the movie. They share this thing, and their passion is renewed, as is their sense of home. I feel like a kiss wouldn’t represent the right goal at the end of the movie. It’s a good Spielberg note. That’s why the boy is still in the game.

Twisters has been running since July 17, 2024 in German cinemas.
