An airstrike reportedly hit a tent for displaced people in a refugee camp in the coastal area of al-Mawasi, west of Khan Yunis in Gaza, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.

According to the ministry, twelve people – among them children – were killed in the attack.

Israel’s military tells AFP the incident is being investigated.

The area of al-Mawasi has become home to thousands of Palestinians who have been forced to flee during the nearly six months of war.

Many of them live in makeshift tents and were displaced from the area around al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, the main hospital in the Gaza Strip that has been the target of an Israeli raid for over a week.
