In a Sifo survey commissioned by TV4, optimism about Swedes’ private finances is increasing slightly.
But the finance minister warns that there may be setbacks.
– It is still economic winter, even if the sun peeks out here and there, says Elisabeth Svantesson (M).
TV4 asked Sifo to ask a thousand Swedes what they thought about their personal finances going forward. In 2022, only 15 percent believed in an improvement, while 33 percent believed in a deterioration. But this year, the group of pessimists is reduced to 20 percent. 17 percent now believe in better private finances and 60 percent in unchanged. Which pleases the finance minister.
– I’m happy if you feel hopeful going forward. It is perhaps also a sign that the fight against inflation is starting to work, says Elisabeth Svantesson (M).
Inflation still high
But there is still a diffuse picture of the economy that prevails. Inflation is still nowhere near the two percent target – and the interest rate increases have been painful for many Swedish households.
– You should know that there are great uncertainties and you should not withdraw too much in advance, says Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson.
