TV4 profile Pär Lernström’s open-hearted words before his debut in the European Football Championship – and criticism from sports lovers: “I’ll be honest”

Pär Lernström makes an entrance in the football EC on TV4.
Now he opens up about the new TV job and the criticism from the sports people.
– People will definitely have a lot of opinions about this, he tells Expressen.

For the summer, the TV4 profile does Pär Lernström debut in the football EC. He has long been a host of entertainment programs on the television channel, but will now step into the world of sports and together with his colleague Frida Nordstrand take care of the EC studio.

Lernström on TV

In recent months, he has therefore had to act as a trainee at TV4 to learn how sports broadcasts work. Lernström has been on the sidelines during both hockey broadcasts and the Champions League studio to gather as much valuable tips as possible.

The TV profile has taken one piece of advice in particular ahead of this summer’s major championships.
– The tip that I will especially keep in the back of my mind is: “Stay away from discussing too much about refereeing efforts and individual verdicts”. There are always two sides of the coin, and you will definitely hear it if you interfere too much, says Lernström in an interview with Expressen.
– Then I have the luxury of working with lots of experts, who have followed the leagues that we already broadcast, in the back. So they have fresh knowledge after covering the entire seasons.

Critical voices

As a public and recognized person, Pär Lernström has always been in a vulnerable position to people’s opinions about him and possible criticism. Therefore, he has actively chosen to no longer be on social media and has closed his accounts for several years.

There is a risk that the vulnerable situation worsens as sports fans are known for their opinion of everything and everyone. And therefore there will be no comeback on social media in connection with the European Football Championship.
– No, I don’t think I will start an Instagram account or hang out so much on X before the summer, he tells the evening newspaper with a laugh.
– It’s something you feel better about not doing. I’ll be honest and say, people are definitely going to have a lot of opinions on this. But I will be the same person here as when I am in “Idol” or when the cameras are not rolling for that matter. In any case, I imagine that people perceive me as the same person both in front of and behind the camera.

The 43-year-old is always true to himself and that has been a big contributing factor to him being able to handle negative words being said about him.
– For my part, it has been nice when I received criticism in the box to be able to lean on that; “this is the way I can do it, I don’t have many other options”. Then it’s fun if people watch and appreciate what you do, he admits in the interview.
