TV4 profile Olof Lundh’s great concern for Swedish football really says everything about the future of Sweden: “It’s painful”

Many are worried about the future of Swedish football.
Now Olof Lundh raises his voice and gives his harsh verdict.
“Of course it’s a stormy time in Swedish football,” writes the TV4 profile in a column.

The Swedish men’s national team is in a dark time right now. The Swedish national team captain Jan Andersson has been forced to leave after a long period of disappointment.

Sweden’s fiasco

“Blågult” has missed the WC 2022 and EC 2024 and went down to group C in the Nations League and a change was necessary after seven years with the national team captain. Now a hunt awaits for Janne’s replacement and it will be absolutely decisive for the future.

On the women’s side, things look much brighter for the Swedish national team, which is number one in the world rankings. Even though they unfortunately look set to miss the Olympic games in Paris next summer, they are still one of the world’s best national teams.

Lundh is worried

Not exactly like the men in blue and yellow who recently lost to Azerbaijan in the European Championship qualifiers. Many are worried about the future of Swedish football and now TV4 is raising its profile Olof Lundh the voice.
“Of course it’s a stormy time in Swedish football, both at the office in Solna and out on pitches around Sweden. On the other hand, it is an opportunity for a new management to stake out a different direction. Changes are often painful for many, but most realize that Swedish football must do something to change the way it operates. Everything to get better,” he writes in a column on Fotbollskanalen.

The Swedish Football Association, SvFF, is also looking for a person who can step into the role of technical director. Where an old national team hero is relevant for the assignment.
“Kim Källström is identified as current for the role of technical director. Clearly, it is an interesting name with considerable experience as a player and training under UEFA’s auspices. He lacks leadership experience and that is of course a shortcoming, but maybe he should be more of a football ideologue for Swedish football and not be a leader of people? Understand that you look at that generation”, writes Lundh and continues:
“For my part, it would have been most important to first set up an organization and a structure to develop a strategy in the next step. Only then should one look for people for different roles, like a national team captain for the men’s national team, but it is clear that the new management does not work that way. At least it doesn’t appear that way when all the different names are floating around in different media”.

The association’s chairman Fredrik Reinfeldt and General Secretary Andrea Mollerberg are ultimately responsible for leading Swedish football into the future and appointing the right people for the important roles that will turn everything around for the men’s national team. Olof Lundh is now worried about how things will go.
“Naturally, there are more football experts in the association. Who is included in this process? Are there any veterans who previously worked in Swedish football that you play with? Connected to someone or a few who have an eye on developments in the football world? Everything may be in place in the office in Solna, even if the impression is something else,” he writes in his critical column.
“Of course it is possible to remain worried about the development of Swedish football. And that regardless of what you choose to call the situation at the moment”.
