TV4 depicts the fatal accident in Sundbyberg

TV4 Nyheterna has been the first newsroom to enter the workplace where five men plunged to their deaths in a construction elevator a month ago.
On a balcony next door, they show where the elevator dropped
– You don’t want to get up again right away, but now you’re back at work, so what are you going to do, says electrician Klas, who is back on the construction site.

In the TV4 Nyheterna Story “Death lift”, the accident is described in a longer report from the workplace, which has now reopened after a protective shutdown.

A construction elevator with five men inside collapsed from a height of 20 meters in mid-December. After a month, it is still unclear exactly what caused the accident. Something that affects the workers who are now back on the construction site.

– All accidents are probably stress-related, I think, says electrician Klas.

“Sitting on their retinas all the time”

Standing on the ground where the elevator crashed, Byggnad’s chairman in Stockholm-Gotland, Tomas Kullberg, says:

– There are several people who saw the whole process. Then it doesn’t feel good, it’s on their retinas all the time.

Among the five dead men are two from Ukraine and one from Russia, whose employment status is still unclear. It is therefore still unclear what will happen to insurance compensation to their survivors.

– We have not been able to see any written agreements, but we believe that the insurance policies will be paid out because the employer states that they were employees. A written agreement is not decisive, says Pelle Sunvisson at the Trade Union Solidarity Builders.

Unable to confirm findings

Prosecutors, the Swedish Work Environment Agency and the National Accident Commission are investigating the accident, but the Accident Commission cannot yet tell you about the findings made at the scene.

The manufacturer of the lift, Alimak, has previously said that the mast the lift was mounted on was not attached correctly, something that is now being investigated as a possible explanation.
