Connects to previous mystery

By then, the 57-year-old had already been removed from his post for several months without explanation. The mystery led to much speculation about what was behind it.

Qin Gang was previously close to China’s leader Xi Jingping and was removed just seven months after he was given the top post in the government.

Met on TV

Qin Gang has not been seen in public since he was forced to leave the government.

The information provided by The Wall Street Journal does not include the name of the woman who had an alleged affair with the then-married ambassador.

She was stationed in the United States during Qin Gang’s time as ambassador to the country. He was also one of her interviewees on the TV show.

In her private Instagram account, Fu Xiaotian wrote before the disappearance that the father of her son “is not American” and that she was “looking forward to returning to her homeland with him.”

The investigation against Qin Gang is said to be still ongoing. According to the newspaper’s sources, it is investigating whether the alleged affair and other actions he may have carried out while in the United States may have threatened China’s national security.

He is said to be cooperating with the regime during the investigation.

Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was asked about The Wall Street Journal’s publication in a press conference on Tuesday.
