Swedish athletics coach Yannick Tregaro was furious during the European Athletics Championships.
Now the TV profiler Tommy Åström directs strong criticism towards the Swedish play.
– It’s an overstepping, says the host of the “Sporthuset” podcast.
It was the best possible end to this year’s athletics EC when Armand Duplantis once again showed the world how superior he is in pole vaulting. The Swedish world star won both EC gold and broke a new championship record with 6.10 meters on Wednesday evening.
Criticism of the EC
Otherwise, it has been a chaotic athletics EC in Rome, shaken by many strange decisions. Clear criticism has been directed at the organizing country Italy and the European Athletics Federation.

Sweden has filed several protests during the course of the championship after incorrect rulings. The national team captain Kajsa Bergqvist has also been furious more than once.
The answer to Tregaro
The angriest of all was the Swedish coaching profile Yannick Tregaro who went so far as to call the jury “corrupt” after Italian track and field athletes received unfair advantages.
“It’s not okay to give yourself advantages so obviously. Someone has to put a stop to this. It doesn’t seem like team managers can access the problem. When the jury is corrupt, where do you turn?” Tregaro wrote in rage on Instagram.

Now the TV profile gives Tommy Åström into the discussion and hits back at Tregaro with full force.
– I am of the opinion that the criticism of Rome as EC organizer is a bit unfair. A number of different events and problems have come together and it has become a drive, not least here in Sweden, says the host of the podcast “Sporthuset”.

Åström does not think that this year’s athletics EC has been as unfair as many others think. His view of the championship is that there have been no bigger problems than usual and that the organizing country and the jury have acted correctly.
– The fact that some Swedish leaders on the ground actually contributed to driving a critical opinion is a lot because they were disappointed with the verdict against Sweden, he says in the podcast episode.
– As the leader of the Swedish national team, to accuse this jury of being corrupt is, to speak athletics language, an overstep.
