TV: LG lifts the veil on a complete, complex, and strangely wise OLED range

TV LG lifts the veil on a complete complex and

Physically absent from the Las Vegas show, LG has chosen to make its announcements on the Web. After unveiling the C2 and G2, its two flagship OLED models, the Korean manufacturer sheds light on the entire range. It contains some surprises and will ask the user to be particularly careful when purchasing.
Unsurprisingly, last year’s LG A1, B1, C1 G1 and Z1 are replaced by A2, B2, C2, G2 and, finally, Z2 for the brand’s 8K model. So much for the main lines. On the other hand in detail, it is much more complex.

Details that matter to players

Remember that all of these 2022 vintage televisions will be equipped with the latest version of webOS (number 22), which we have already discussed in our news on the C2 and G2.
These two models will also benefit from the latest version of the in-house processor, the Alpha 9 Gen 5 AI. However, they will not be equipped with the same panel. The G2, in its 55, 65 and 77-inch versions will be the only one to embed the new OLED EX panel presented by LG Display at the opening of CES.
The other 2022 models will be equipped with last year’s OLED Evo (for the C2) or a more classic OLED WRGB for the more affordable models.
To add a bit of complexity to the lineup, these last two panels don’t have the same refresh rate. Indeed, the B2 will carry a 100 Hz panel, where that of the A2 will be limited to 50 Hz. This last criterion could disappoint gamers to whom we advise to focus their attention on the B2, at a minimum, especially since the ‘A2 will logically be devoid of HDMI 2.1.

In addition to not being equipped with the same panel, these different models will therefore run under different processors. The Alpha 9 Gen 5 AI 4K chip is reserved for the C2 and G2 while an 8K version, which we imagine more powerful, is assigned to the Z2. For their part, the A2 (48, 55, 65 and 77 inches) and B2 (55, 65 and 77 inches) will benefit from an Alpha 7 gen 5 chip about which very little is known at the moment.

Note also that the manufacturer’s roll-up model, the famous 65R1, is not affected by these novelties. It remains in the catalog, at a price of 85,000 euros.
As for the prices for the 2022 range, they will only be known in a few weeks, at the same time as their availability. In this regard LG is rather conservative and we should therefore expect to see the C2 and G2 land at the end of spring, the rest of the range arriving on the market between the beginning and the end of the summer for the B2.
