The study revealed that vehicle inspection practices significantly prevent accidents. With the initiation of the Periodic Vehicle Inspection practice in 2008 by TÜVTÜRK, the only institution authorized to provide periodic vehicle inspection services in our country under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Turkey, significant improvements were observed in road safety. According to the study, while the share of fatal accident-related deaths was calculated as 3.766 percent, 5,033 deaths were prevented thanks to periodic vehicle inspection. The injury rate per fatal accident was 164.29 percent, meaning that 219,498 injuries were prevented.
The economic analysis in the study highlights the significant cost savings provided by implementing Vehicle Inspection. The annual average savings from accidents prevented through vehicle inspections amount to approximately 1.5 billion TL, with total savings estimated at 22.48 billion TL from 2008 to 2022. These savings demonstrate the economic viability of vehicle inspections, reinforcing its performance in reducing the financial burden that road accidents impose on society.”
