Turtle Beach stomps one of the most famous German hardware brands and my heart bleeds

Turtle Beach is doing away with the old and popular German brand Roccat and replacing all products with its own name. MeinMMO editor Benedikt Schlotmann is shocked that the brand is simply disappearing like that. Because he has many memories with the products that have accompanied him for years.

Roccat GmbH, founded in 2006, specialized in mice, keyboards and mouse pads. The brand became known primarily for its playfulness and the cat logo emblazoned on the hardware.

In 2019, the company was bought and taken over by Turtle Beach Corporation and then continued to operate as an independent brand.

Now Turtle Beach is finally abolishing the “Roccat” brand: Roccat no longer exists and the old products will be integrated into the official Turtle Beach portfolio. This is what Turtle Beach writes on its official website.

The company reasons that “time and resources are best spent focusing on a single brand.”

For me, not only is a much-bought manufacturer disappearing, but also a piece of German “history.”

A piece of German hardware completely disappears from the market

Roccat has accompanied me personally quite faithfully and reliably over the last few years. My first Roccat products were under the Christmas tree, the Roccat Isku (keyboard) and the Roccat Savu (mouse), which have accompanied me every day since then.

I later bought my Kone AIMO Remastered, which I still consider to be the best Roccat product and one of the best gaming mice. I still find the ergonomics unsurpassed to this day.

This was followed by the Vulcan Aimo 121 gaming keyboard, which I bought as a replacement for an old device. It was not for nothing that I explained in an article in 2021 that the Vulcan AIMO 121 was the best keyboard for gaming and office for me.

As great as this all sounds, I have not only had good memories with the manufacturer. And anyone who has been buying Roccat for years, like me, is probably familiar with one or two problems:

  • The Roccat Isku software has always been pretty terrible for years.
  • The mouse wheel on the Kone AIMO Remastered let me down at some point and no longer turned properly.
  • The Vulcan series has had problems with the key paint for years. I was lucky back then and got a model without any problems.
  • The “Swarm” software seemed out of date, but mostly worked without any problems.
  • Nevertheless, it is above all good memories that I associate with the German brand “Roccat”. That’s why it hurts me that Turtle Beach is now simply crushing the old brand with the “cat” and letting it disappear. After all, in its own way it is a piece of German hardware history, which will finally disappear.

What’s next? Roccat is gone and that honestly shocked and surprised me. The website is already offline and redirects to the official Turtle Beach website. However, the old products will continue to be sold. Sooner or later, the old symbols and logos will probably disappear from the new products too.

However, I see the suggestion that Turtle Beach wants to replace the old Swarm software with a new version as much more problematic.

    It’s pretty blunt here:

We have developed an all-new Swarm II that will be introduced in spring 2024 for new Turtle Beach PC products as well as for select ROCCAT products (also continuing under the Turtle Beach brand).

But that probably also means that not all old products are supported anymore. Turtle Beach is being phased out, even though I paid good money for the hardware years ago.
