Thursday, February 27, the founder and imprisoned leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), Abdullah Öcalan, asked for the dissolution of his organization and called him to give up weapons against Turkey. An initiative which follows negotiations with the Turkish government and which is only the beginning of a process which promises to be long and strewn with pitfalls. Within Turkish public opinion, many are sailing between hope and skepticism.
