On January 21, a devastating fire struck the Grand Kartal Hotel, located in Kartalkaya, a ski resort 170 kilometers east of Ankara, Turkey, killing at least 76 people. On January 22, Turkey is observing a day of national mourning in tribute to the victims of this disaster which decimated many families, mainly vacationers who came to enjoy the winter school holidays.
