The soldiers were killed by “the separatist terrorist organization,” the ministry added, referring to the terror-labeled Kurdish organization PKK.
Turkey launched a cross-border operation in April 2022 to crack down on the PKK movement and PKK members hiding in mountainous areas along the Turkish border.
The PKK has been waging an armed rebellion against the Turkish state since 1984. Turkey has dozens of military bases in northern Iraq that regularly conduct operations against the organization.
