Turkish prosecutors are investigating the hanging of an Erdogan doll

On Friday, Turkish prosecutors started an investigation into an incident in Sweden in which the president of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan the performing puppet was hung to hang in Stockholm.

The Turkish state media reports on the matter.

Footage that spread on Twitter showed an Erdoğan doll hanging from its legs in front of the Stockholm City Hall. The footage was first shared by an organization supporting the Syrian Kurds.

Turkey has reacted to the sentiment by, among other things, canceling the invitation to the Speaker of the Diet For Andreas Norlén. The idea was that he would visit the Turkish Parliament next week.

– I understand that the Turkish side is reacting, Norlén tells SVT Nyheter.

Norlén tells SVT that he plans to talk to the Turkish president on the phone Mustafa Şentopin with later on Friday.

Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristersson said on Friday to the TV4 channel that the act was “extremely serious”. He said he considered it sabotage of Sweden’s NATO membership application.

Sweden has recently been trying to get Turkey to accept Sweden’s NATO membership.
