Erdogan wants to see “concrete steps” and that Sweden’s “support for terrorist organizations” must cease.

He has spoken with both Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson and Finnish President Sauli Niinistö, reports Turkish TRT Haber and EPN.
They are said to have discussed Sweden’s and Finland’s applications for membership in NATO.
Erdogan is said to have pointed out to Magdalena Andersson that “Sweden’s support for terrorist organizations must cease”, writes TRT Haber. He is also said to have emphasized that Turkey wants to see “concrete steps” and that the arms embargo must be lifted.
Magdalena Andersson writes on Twitter that she appreciated today’s conversation with President Erdogan regarding the Swedish NATO application.
“We look forward to strengthening our bilateral relations, including peace, security and the fight against terrorism,” the Prime Minister wrote.
Wants Sweden to cut ties with YPG
Turkey has opposed the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO and wants them to first agree to several demands, including the lifting of the arms embargo.
The most important requirement has been stated to be that the ties to the YPG are broken. Erdogan has accused Sweden of “protecting terrorists” and wants 33 people extradited from Sweden and Finland.
Finnish President Sauli Niinistö wrote on Twitter that he had today “an open and direct conversation” with Erdogan.
“I said that Finland and Turkey as allies of NATO will commit to each other’s security and our relationship will thus grow stronger. Finland condemns terrorism in all its forms and expressions. The close dialogue continues “, he writes on Twitter.
All NATO member states must approve new members.
