Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan traveled to Ukraine on Wednesday for the first time since Russia invaded it in February.
President of Ukraine to Volodymyr Zelensky is scheduled to host the Secretary General of the UN today, Thursday, in Lviv, Western Ukraine Antonio Guterres and the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The visit is Erdoğan’s first to Ukraine since Russia started the war on February 24. Turkey has tried to act as a mediator.
In Lviv, Erdoğan is expected to try to discuss, in particular, how grain shipments from Ukraine could be increased. The important sea transports interrupted by the Russian attack started again when Russia and Ukraine reached an agreement through the UN and Turkey to secure them,
It is believed that Guterres will especially highlight the means to curb the volatile situation in the area of the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
Diplomatic efforts to end the war are also on the agenda.
Erdoğan is scheduled to meet Zelensky one-on-one before Guterres joins the talks.
