Turkey’s main opposition party, the secular CHP, is changing party leaders in the disappointment of May’s presidential election in which President Recep Tayyip Edogan managed to hang on to power, despite declining support.
The CHP’s congress is pushing Kemal Kilicdaroglu for the relatively untested Özgur Özel. Kilicdaroglu speaks of “knife in the back”.
49-year-old Özel speaks German, is basically a pharmacist and has been in parliament for twelve years. He promises change in Turkish politics.
