Now comes a most unexpected mockery of “Mondo” – from Turkey.
The entire sports world and 80,000 spectators on site got to see an absolutely incredible display of Armand Duplantis during Monday evening. The Swede offered a historic sporting evening with Olympic gold, an Olympic record and another world record.
Mondo’s victory gesture
Total euphoria erupted at the Stade de France and it is a pole vault final that many will remember for a long time. During the show, “Mondo” also offered a much-talked-about victory gesture that has become a huge talking point.

When the Olympic record was secured, the Swedish world star made a gun gesture to pay tribute to the Turkish pistol shooter Yusuf Dikec which went super viral during the Olympics in Paris. But now a most unexpected mockery comes from Turkey after Duplanti’s attention-grabbing gesture.
Turkish mockery
The Turkish Sports Minister Osman Askin Behind sends a clear pass to the Swede at X.
“Even if you break the Olympic record, you will always be in the shadow of Yusuf”, writes the minister with a real grin.

Duplantis, who has rightfully celebrated the Olympic gold and the world record ever since, has yet to take part in the Turkish mockery or other reactions to his victory gesture.
– I have only heard. I haven’t had time to look at my mobile almost, it’s just been one thing after another, he admits to Expressen.

The girlfriend Desire Inglander however, had another theory behind Mondo’s victory gesture.
– It was like “I got this”, she said on Monday evening.
– I think Desiré was a little stressed because she didn’t know what I was doing for anything “what are you doing with a gun?”. But I explained it was a meme and when I showed the picture she got it. But she wondered what I was doing, Armand Duplantis admits to the evening newspaper after the great confusion and ends with a laugh:
– It’s nice to be a little cocky sometimes.
