On Sunday, many heads of state and prime ministers congratulated Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for winning the presidential election.
President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has won the second round of the presidential election held on Sunday.
Erdoğan received congratulations from other heads of state on his victory throughout the evening.
Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz said in his congratulations that Germany and Turkey are close allies whose “citizens and economies are deeply bound together.”
Also the President of the United States Joe Biden highlighted Turkey’s status as an ally in his congratulations, and said he was looking forward to continuing the cooperation between the two countries as NATO allies.
President of France Emmanuel Macron congratulated Erdoğan on his re-election and said that countries sometimes have huge challenges that need to be worked on.
In his Twitter message, Macron says that one of the challenges is the return of peace to Europe.
– With President Erdoğan, whom I congratulate on his re-election, we will move forward, Macron said.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi said, along with his congratulations, that he is counting on the strengthening of relations between the countries.
President of Russia Vladimir Putin stated in his own congratulations that the Turkish people clearly support and appreciate Erdoğan’s work and independent foreign policy.
– We highly value your personal contribution to strengthening relations between Russia and Turkey and mutually beneficial cooperation in many areas, Putin says, according to a statement published by the Kremlin.
The representatives of the European Union and the defense alliance NATO also presented their own congratulations.
– Congratulations to the president on your re-election. I look forward to continuing our cooperation and preparing for the NATO meeting in July, tweeted NATO’s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
– I congratulate Erdoğan on his election victory. I look forward to building relations between the EU and Turkey, which is strategically important for both parties, and for the benefit of the citizens, tweeted the president of the EU Commission in turn Ursula von der Leyen.
Turkey is a member of NATO and aspired to join the European Union. Erdoğan has repeatedly been at odds with both organizations, writes news agency AFP.
