President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan insists that the terrorist groups that threaten the future of Syria must be destroyed. According to Erdoğan, these include the extremist organization Isis and Kurdish fighters.
Turkey considers the Kurdish-led SDF force operating in Syria to be a terrorist organization. The SDF is backed by the US and has been leading the fight against ISIS in Syria.
According to Erdoğan, Turkey takes preventive measures against groups it considers a threat.
Turkish-backed forces and the Kurds clash
Clashes between Turkish-backed SNA forces and Kurdish-led SDF forces continue in northern Syria.
On Friday, the Turkish media and the Turkish party DEM, which promotes the cause of the Kurds, told the Kurdish media that two journalists who worked for the Kurdish media had died in a Turkish drone attack.
According to the claims, the journalists were following the clashes between the SNA and the SDF in the Tishir Dam, about 90 kilometers east of Aleppo, when a Turkish plane hit them.
The Turkish administration did not confirm the claims.
According to Turkey, the SDF, led by the Kurdish YPG fighter group, is an extension of the PKK, a Kurdish workers’ party banned in Turkey. The Kurds see themselves as fighting for Kurdish autonomy and freedom in northern Syria.
