Turkey’s 5th Consulate General in China was opened in Chingdu. On the occasion of the opening, a reception and ceremony was held with the participation of Turkish and Chinese officials.
Turkey’s Ambassador to Beijing, İsmail Hakkı Musa, made a statement at the ceremony; He said that the Consulate General in Chingdu is Turkey’s 5th representative office in China, after the Beijing Embassy and the Consulate Generals in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Guangcou.
Expressing that the Consulate General will serve in a large region in central and western China, including the province of Chongqing and the province of Guicou in the south, excluding Sichuan province, Musa pointed out that the total economic size of the region, which is home to more than 200 million people, is approaching 2 trillion dollars.
Musa emphasized that Turkey sees vast opportunities and cooperation opportunities for Turkish citizens and enterprises in this vast region, and will try to establish a dynamic partnership with the region in the fields of economy and trade, as well as tourism, culture, education, science and technology.
Noting that Turkey, which has a high growth and export-oriented economy, still has a trade volume of 1.1 billion dollars with Sichuan, Musa stated that this constitutes about 3 percent of the total trade volume with China.
