It was reported that Greece granted honorary citizenship to Yaşam Ayavefe, who was wanted with a red notice by Turkey for establishing and managing an illegal online gambling and betting website. Ayavefe was apprehended by Greek Interpol units on February 28, 2019, for the purpose of extradition to Turkey.

The decision, published in the official gazette dated 22 June, was signed by Greek President Katerina Sakelaropulu and Interior Minister Mavrudis Voridis.
In the decision, which stated that Ayavefe had “extremely important services” to Greece, it was stated that it saved the national health system from collapse by donating basic needs, food and sanitary wares to the country during the Kovid-19 epidemic.
In the decision, it was argued that Ayavefe made significant contributions to the country’s economy with its investments in Greece, and said, “For this reason, granting him Greek citizenship may serve the interests of the country within the framework of strategically strengthening the Greek economy.” statement was included.

According to a written statement made by the General Directorate of Security in March 2019, within the scope of illegal betting operations in Turkey, at the request of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, Hayat is wanted at the international level by Turkish Interpol for the crime of “establishing and managing an illegal online gambling and betting website”. Ayavefe was apprehended by Greek Interpol units on February 28, 2019, for the purpose of extradition to Turkey.
A request was made to the Ministry of Justice in order to initiate the necessary work for the suspect’s extradition to Turkey.
