The group that rules Syria assures that it does not persecute other religious communities.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fida has met with Syria’s new leader to Ahmed al-Shara.
After the discussions, Fidan said that he thinks it is important that the sanctions on Syria’s former leadership be lifted so that the country can get back on its feet and the refugees can return to their homes.
Al-Sharaa also assures that people belonging to different religious groups are not persecuted in Syria. Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, the group he leads, has previously been a fanatical Islamist, but is now trying to moderate its image.
A new era has begun in Syria, far from religious fanaticism, he said while meeting representatives of the country’s Druze minority.
– Belonging to the Islamic community does not mean excluding other religious groups. On the contrary, it is our job to protect them, he said.
