Turkey NGOs stand up against the first nuclear power plant

In Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is due to preside over a ceremony this Thursday, April 27 for the receipt of the first fuel from the Akkuyu nuclear power plant, in the south of the country. Even if the head of state, campaigning for the May 14 elections, boasts of a “great national project”, Turkey’s first nuclear power plant was built thanks to an agreement between the Turkish government and the Russian government. It is built and will be operated by the Russian giant Rosatom. Environmental NGOs severely criticize the project.
