Turkey is applying for membership of the Brics economic alliance

Turkey has submitted an official application to join the economic bloc Brics.

– Our president has often expressed that Turkey wants to join Brics. The process has now started, Çelik said.

In addition to Russia, the alliance established in 2009 as an economic and political counterforce to Western countries originally included China, Brazil and India. South Africa joined it a year later.

The alliance decided to open the doors to expansion last year, and at the beginning of this year, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and, a little later, Saudi Arabia joined the organization.
