In recent weeks, in Turkey, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been leading a charm offensive towards the Alevis. A minority bringing together several million people, the Alevis are not Sunnis like the majority of the Turkish population, but followers of a plural and heterodox belief, long persecuted on their lands in Anatolia. For most of them, the recent initiatives of power go badly, because they see it as a form of bringing them into line or of assimilation. Their representatives multiply the demonstrations.
